Second Sunday Stewardship
Luke 16:10-13. "Whoever is faithful in a very little is faithful also in much; and whoever is dishonest in a very little is dishonest also in much. If then you have not been faithful with the dishonest wealth, who will entrust to you the true riches? And if you have not been faithful with what belongs to another, who will give you what is your own? No slave can serve two masters; for a slave will either hate the one and love the other, or be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and wealth.” Also read, "you cannot serve both God and man."
Being faithful with our earthly wealth (our talents, our finances, our abilities) will reap greater rewards both here and hereafter. We may be tempted to misuse (or not use at all) our treasures, and in doing so may miss out on even greater riches.
We are called to be faithful with what we have, for faithfulness in the little things will lead to faithfulness in greater things.
So many people think that giving money to the church keeps the minister paid and the electricity on. What they may not consider is that giving is something we do for ourselves. We cannot hold onto our money or our God-given abilities without shortchanging ourselves.
True wealth is found in what we give away, not in what we keep.
